Mary (Kompf) Mathews, 86, of Liverpool, passed away peacefully on Saturday, with loving family by her side.
She was born in Syracuse. Mary was a former employee of Carrier Corporation, General Motors Autoworkers Union and Equifax. She was a communicant and Eucharistic Minister at Assumption Church, where she was the former director of the Gym Dandy Thrift Shop and she volunteered at the food pantry and bingo.
During WWII she was a sergeant with the Civil Air Patrol. Mary was a former Cub Scout and Campfire Girls leader.
Surviving are her husband of 64 years, John Mathews, children, Christine (Dave) Mathews of Liverpool, David of Baldwinsville, Gary (Lesley) of Chelmsford, MA, Timothy (Lori) of Liverpool, brother, Robert (Lil) Kompf of Syracuse, grandchildren, Catherine, Elizabeth, Margaret, Kim, John, Andrew, Alyssa, Makenzie, Conor, Brennan, Cara, Eliza and Amanda, and 23 Nieces and Nephews.
Funeral services will be 9:00 a.m. Wednesday March 3, 2010 at the Maurer Funeral Home and 10:00 a.m. in Assumption Church with burial to follow in Assumption Cemetery. Calling hours will be 6-8 p.m. Tuesday March 2, 2010 at the funeral home 300 Second St., Liverpool.
Contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, CNY Chapter, 441 W. Kirkpatrick St., Syracuse, NY 13204-1305.
