Life Legacy

George Arthur Miller, 76, of Liverpool, passed away Sunday, October 6, 2013 at St. Joseph’s Hospital.
He was born in Syracuse on August 8, 1937 the son of the late Frank and Marie Gettmann Miller.

George was a 1955 graduate of Liverpool High School and received his Bachelor’s Degree from Syracuse University in 1959.
He retired in 1992 after 32 years as a music teacher, 28 years at Elmcrest Elementary School in the Liverpool School District and 4 years with Port Byron and Cayuga Elementary Schools in the Cayuga County School District.

A member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, he was the church organist from 1960-1967. George then began his 20 year tenure as church organist at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Baldwinsville. He taught private piano lessons for 25 years.

A community oriented person, George was a member of the Liverpool Junior Chamber of Commerce, FISH, and the Liverpool Is the Place Committee for 15 years, where he and his wife Jane were instrumental in the addition of a Wednesday Night Concert in Johnson Park.
George and his wife Jane also enjoyed for over 17 years their membership with Pairs & Squares, Square Dancing Club.

For the past 15 years George had enjoyed his new found talent of writing poetry, which was expressed with his yearly Christmas greetings to friends and family.
He was predeceased by his son Aaron G. Miller on July 24, 2000.

Surviving to cherish his memory are his wife of 49 years Jane (Kellogg) Miller, daughter, Alissa (Michael) Hamilton of East Haven, CT; granddaughter, Alanna Jane Hamilton; grandson, Logan Aaron Hamilton; Fresh Air Fund daughter Tosha Wise, brother-in-law, Birney (Rebekah) Kellogg of Gouverneur; three nephews, four nieces; his sister, Mary Lou (Heinz) Lorch of Liverpool and many cousins.

Burial services for George will be 1:00 p.m. Friday October 11, 2013 in Liverpool Village Cemetery.

A celebration of George’s life will be 6:00 p.m. Sunday October 13, 2013 in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, where the family will greet friends after the service.
