Agatha M.
Halstead
March 21, 1927 – May 3, 2025
Agatha "Get" Halstead, 98, of Phoenix, NY, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, May 3, 2025 at her home. Agatha was a lifelong resident of the Village of Phoenix. She was very involved in her community her entire life. In her younger years she taught Religious Education at St. Stephen's Church in Phoenix where she was a lifelong parishioner. She and her husband Robert would often be chaperones for their sons' band when they were in high school and hosting dances at the Sweet Memorial Building in Phoenix through the 1960's. She was also a supporter of the Fresh Air Children's Program, where she and her family hosted a fresh air child each summer. Agatha was very involved in raising money for the Central New York Ronald McDonald House as a coordinator of the Phoenix Boat Parade, and running a garage sale for 11 years, raising over $100,000 donated to the "house that love built". As an exchange student representative, she placed many students in area schools, as well as hosting over 17 exchange students in her own home. Her greatest joy was her family. She enjoyed spending time with them whether it was camping, playing cards, and having pizza, or following her sons' band "Nite Life" when they played in area venues. She was blessed to spend Christmas with 5 generations in her house at one time.
Agatha was a member of the Phoenix Lions Club for many years. She was also a past member of TOPS, a representative for AISE (Student Foreign Exchange Program) and a life member of the Women's Auxiliary VFW Post 5540.
She was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Robert H. Halstead; her son, Robert L. Halstead; her parents, Delbert and Catherine Sivers; sisters, Katherine (Tillie) DiNardo and Lola Kirk; brothers, Delbert (Pope) Sivers, Jr. and Louis (Baldy) Sivers.
Surviving to cherish her memory are her children, Richard (Pam) Halstead of Pennellville, Donald (Mary) Halstead, and John Halstead of Phoenix, NY, daughter-in-law Crystal Halstead, 5 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
