Barbara "BJ" Burkett, 67 years old and born in Syracuse, died peacefully at Upstate Hospital on Friday, after a long illness. Barb was a 1973 graduate of Liverpool High School and a graduate of SUNY Fredonia. She retired from the NYS Taxation Dept. In her youth she was a member of the Syracuse Marauders Drum & Bugle Corps and as an adult she was an active member of both Beta Sigma Phi sorority, as well as the choir of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church. She was predeceased by her parents, Albert & Norma Burkett; brother-in-law, David Siedlicke and sister-in-law, Helene Burkett.

Barb is survived by two brothers, Richard Burkett and James (Mary Kay) Burkett; sister, Marguerite Siedlicke; nephew, Michael (Mandy) Burkett, and nieces, Julie (John) Snay, Joy (Matt) Shafer and Kelley (Nick) Burkett.

Calling hours will be held on Monday, August 22, 2022 from 4:00 to 6:00 pm at Maurer Funeral Home, Inc., 300 Second Street, Liverpool, NY 13088. Sorority will be holding a memorial closing ritual at 4:00 pm. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, August 23, 2022 at 9:30 am in Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 425 Beechood Ave, Liverpool, NY 13088. The Rite of Committal and burial will be private in St. Agnes Cemetery, Syracuse.
