Obituary

Charles "Chuck" Wesley Kelly, Jr. 74, of Liverpool, NY passed away on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, at Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse, NY. He was born in Watertown, NY the son of the late Charles W., Sr. and Madeline (Backus) Closs, Chuck grew up in Hailesboro, NY and graduated from Gouverneur High School. He completed his studies at SUNY Potsdam obtaining his Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology. Chuck had previously lived in Wampsville, NY for over 30 years. He was united in marriage to Marie Nicotra, a blessed union for the past six years, residing in Liverpool, NY together for the last three years. Chuck received an honorable discharge on the 27th day of May 1970, from the Armed Forces of the United States of America, Private E-1 Regular Army.  Chuck retired as a Maintenance Supervisor with over 40 years of service culminating with facilities at the Destiny USA Shopping Complex in Syracuse, NY in 2016.

Chuck was an avid golfer, NY Giants, and Yankees fan. He loved Disney, trains, rollercoasters, and was a Lego enthusiast. He enjoyed woodworking, drawing, painting, digital scrapbooking, and playing chess. His early love for the arts led him to write and illustrate an unpublished comic book. He loved a good Hallmark movie and games of strategy, always the first to set his opponents taking great pleasure with every move. He will be remembered for his quirky sense of humor and contagious laugh. Chuck was a member of Salina Seniors in Liverpool. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his two brothers, Steve Kelly and Robbie Closs.

Surviving to cherish his memory are his wife, Marie Rose Nicotra of Liverpool, NY, two sons, Charles Kelly of Syracuse, NY, and Michael Kelly, and his daughter, Erin Kelly of Syracuse, NY, four grandchildren, his sister, Mavis (Jim) Pyle of Nashua, NH, his brother, Bobbie Kelly, six nieces and a nephew.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, May 27, 2025 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Maurer Funeral Home, Inc., 300 Second Street, Liverpool, NY 13088. Funeral services will follow at 7:00 pm at the funeral home. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.
