Cheng Laurens Hsu, 81, of Rochester, NY passed away on Friday, February 10, 2023. He was born on July 24, 1941 at Pinghsiang, Jiangxi Province, China. In 1948 he moved to Taiwan with his parents. He graduated from National Taiwan University majoring in Law in 1968. Cheng served one year in the Chinese Air Force as a 2nd Lieutenant reserve officer from 1968 to 1969. In the fall of 1969, he received an assistantship from Indiana State University to pursue his graduate studies and received his Master's Degree in Political Science. He married I-Chen Ho in 1970 while he was completing his graduate studies in Indiana. In 1972, they moved to Syracuse, New York where Cheng and his wife had two daughters, Christine and Grace.
He began to work for Combined Life Insurance as a financial consultant in the early 1980s where he remained for 25 years. He became one of the top consultants for the firm and won the company's 8-Diamond rings several times. After his retirement from Combined Life, he was hired back as a trainer for new hires. Throughout his retirement, he remained active and independent living in Rochester, New York.
Cheng will always be remembered for his positive outlook, his generosity and his kind heart.
Surviving to cherish Cheng's memory are his two daughters; Christine Hsu Rohde and Grace Shapiro, his former spouse, four siblings, and five grandchildren.
Funeral services and burial will be private.
