The lord called Christine "Chris" Marie (DeJourdan) McMakin home to him on December 25, 2025.
Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She loved family, animals, arts and crafts, reading, and her endless news reels. She devoted her life to family being a stay-at-home Mom. Her decades of charity crafts include sewing over 6,000 stockings for the Marty Lyons Foundation - Brunswick, GA chapter and knitting/crocheting countless hats for micro preemies, children, and adults for organizations in need. Chris was an animal whisperer from anything from her dogs and cats, to fish, to even alligators. Animals found comfort in her presence as exemplified over the years. Even now her cat Mia is missing her.
She is predeceased by her parents, Donald Fredrick and Margaret Mae (Adderley) DeJourdan, brother in-law, Geoffrey Bruce Oswald, and niece, Dianne Elizabeth (Wagner) Lijewski.
She is survived by her devoted husband of over 56 years, John Taylor McMakin, Jr., daughter, Stacey Ann McMakin, grandson, Dawson Scott Newbern and his significant other Sarah Cone. Also, surviving are her sisters, Denise Anne and her husband Terry Lowell Wagner, and Michelle Therese Oswald, her nephews, Charles Richard Willis III and Mark William and his wife, Eileen Wagner. Additionally, her great niece, Haley Marie Willis, great niece, Stella Margaret Lijewski, great nephew, Sterling Lowell Lijewski, and great-great nephew, Josiah.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, January 2, 2026 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Maurer Funeral Home, 3541 State Route 31, Baldwinsville, NY 13027. A recitation of the Rosary will be held at 4:30 pm Friday evening at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:30 am on Saturday, January 3, 2026 at Pope John XXIII Roman Catholic Church, 8290 Soule Road, Liverpool, NY 13090. A spring burial will be held at Riverside Cemetery, Cape Vincent, NY.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation may be made to Humane CNY, 4915 West Taft Rd., Liverpool, NY 13088.
