Connie D.
Buchwalter
October 12, 1940 – February 12, 2025
Connie D. (Kutz) Buchwalter, 84, of LaFayette, NY, was welcomed into Heaven on Wednesday, following a long battle with Alzheimer's disease.
She was born in Detroit, MI on October 12, 1940 to the late Henry and Olivia (Drewitz) Kutz. Her family moved to Syracuse when she was a young girl, eventually settling in Kirkville, NY. Connie graduated from Minoa High School, continuing her schooling at Swedish Covenant nursing school in Chicago. Before she finished her degree, love lead her back to Syracuse to marry her sweetheart, Paul, in 1961.
They settled in Liverpool where Connie was a devoted mother to their daughter, Amy, and was deeply involved in her church community, playing the organ at North Central Church for over 20 years. She worked as an office manager for Dr. James Patrei until her retirement, at which time she embraced her love of travel. Both with her women's travel group and, later, her husband, Connie saw the world! Standing on all 7 continents in her life, she slept on the floor of the Grand Canyon, saw Machu Picchu, biked through Netherlands, rode an elephant in Thailand and so much more.
Connie was a beautiful homemaker, avid reader, daily NYT crossword puzzler, a gracious and warm hostess, loved gardening and crafting. But more than anything, Connie was deeply dedicated to her family. Her face lit up when she was around us and no one ever doubted her love for them.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Paul M. Buchwalter, her daughter Amy D. Corlett, two grandchildren, Daniel P. Corlett, Olivia V. Corlett and fiancé, Owen Memelo, two brothers, Dr. H. Douglas (Beverly) Kutz and Larry D. (Elaine) Kutz, along with several nieces and nephew.
The family is deeply grateful to the staff at Syracuse Home for their excellent care of Connie since November 2023.
A private family memorial will be scheduled in the spring.
Contributions in Connie's memory can be made to Syracuse Home Association, 7740 Meigs Rd, Baldwinsville, NY 13027.
Please sign the Maurer Funeral Home online guestbook for Connie to express your condolences to her family.
