Wherley
July 17, 1939 – January 25, 2022
Master Chief (Retired) Donald "Don" J. Wherley, 82, of Baldwinsville, passed away in Tampa, FL after a 20-year battle with cancer with his loving family at his side.
Don was born and raised in St. Paul, Minnesota, and attended Cretin Military High School. Don proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1961 to 1986, retiring as a Master Chief. Don earned his Associates Degree in History and English in the U.S. Navy, was a certified electronics technician, a licensed electrician, and licensed HVAC technician. During his career in the military, he proudly served our nation on ships all over the world, and three tours in Vietnam to include a tour on the DMZ and a tour on the river patrol boats. After retiring from the U.S. Navy, Don served as the Chief Engineer at AmeriPride for 20 years.
Don is predeceased by his parents, Donald and Gladys Wherley.
Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife of 56 years, Marilyn Wherley of Baldwinsville, NY; son, Mark (Betsy) Wherley of Cave Creek, AZ; daughter, Michele (John) Armentrout of Tampa, FL; grandchildren, McKenna and Aidan Wherley of Cave Creek, AZ and Savannah Armentrout of Tampa, FL, as well as his sister, Dorothy Wherley of St. Paul, MN.
A calling hour will be held from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, Monday, January 31, 2022 at Maurer Funeral Home, Moyers Corners, 3541 State Route 31, Baldwinsville, NY 13027. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 am on Monday, in St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, 3494 State Route 31, Baldwinsville, with the Rite of Committal and entombment to follow with military honors in Our Lady of Peace Cemetery Mausoleum Chapel, 8668 County Route 57, Baldwinsville, NY.
