Elizabeth J. Tietjen, 98, of Liverpool, NY, passed away Monday, October 9, 2023 at her home. She was born on July 24, 1925 in Schenectady, NY to the late Robert and Helen Zeglen. She moved to Syracuse, NY in 1961, yet she always kept a place in her heart for Schenectady where much of her family resided.  She served in the USO during World War II where she met and later married Byron A Tietjen, who was serving on a WWII battleship at that time.  Elizabeth worked as a secretary for General Electric and Liverpool High School for several years.  She liked to knit and have parties with her friends and family, and always planned things well in advance.  Later in her life she enjoyed watching football, Smallville, Zorro, and loved scratching off lotto tickets, which she did every week.  She had a great sense of humor, and could be made to laugh very easily, even up to her final days.

Elizabeth is predeceased by her husband Byron A. Tietjen, a sister, Dorothy Retajczyk, and a brother, William Zeglen.

She is survived by a son, Byron W. Tietjen; daughter, Karen Tietjen; her beloved grandchildren, Eric Tietjen, Mark Tietjen, Robin Neal, and Chris Erat; two great-grandchildren, Reese and Cole Neal, and several nieces and nephews.  She loved her family and especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Calling hours will be Sunday, October 15, 2023 from 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm at the Maurer Funeral Home, 300 Second St., Liverpool, NY 13088.

Graveside services will be Monday, October 16, 2023 at 10:00 am in North Syracuse Cemetery, North Syracuse, NY.
