Ellen M. (Berry) Roach, 97, of Liverpool, NY passed away on Wednesday at Brookdale Manlius. She was born in Success, Arkansas where she was raised and attended high school. Ellen, along with her father who was a sharecropper, spent many hours picking cotton together. At the age of 17 she moved to the west coast and started working at Consolidated Aircraft to help support her family. She built airplanes until the end of WW II earning her title "Rosie the Riveter". While living back in Arkansas, she was united in marriage to Paul G. Roach, a blessed union of 31 years until his passing in 1992. Residing in Liverpool for the past 60 years, Ellen worked as a Coil Winder for General Electric for 10 years. She retired from Anaren Microwave as a Lead Assembler in East Syracuse after 17 years of employment. She was a proud member of the Red Hat Society and enjoyed crocheting and sewing. Ellen was a parishioner of Catholic Family of Epiphany Church in Liverpool, formerly St. Joseph the Worker. She is predeceased by her husband, Paul G. Roach, son, Joseph Knowles, parents, Roscoe and Maudie (Hay) Berry and two brothers, James and Jerry Berry.
Surviving to cherish her memory are her four daughters, Frances Kay VanDerWerff and Paula D. Reppi both of Liverpool, NY, Loretta (Larry) Larrabee of Elbridge, NY, Pam Dzielak of Roscoe, IL, two sons, Larry Knowles (Diane Hutchinson) of Ft Myers, FL and Paul G. (Caroline) Roach, Jr. of Cape Coral, FL, 20 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, October 29, 2024 from 9:00 am to 11:00 am at the Maurer Funeral Home, Inc., 300 Second St., Liverpool, NY 13088 with Funeral services to follow at 11:00 am. The Rite of Committal and entombment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery Mausoleum, Syracuse, NY.
