Obituary

Emilio Chassé died peacefully on Thursday, October 12, 2023 surrounded by his family. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Betty Lou (Kemnitz) and their eight children; Elaine Chassé of Liverpool, Susan Chassé (Robert Sackel) of Syracuse, Lisa (David) Briere of Mill Spring, NC, David Chassé (Denise) of Salt Lake City, UT, Robert Chassé of Rosemount, MN, William Chassé, (Debbie) of Melbourne, FL, Jeanie Owens (Brian) of Liverpool, and Richard Chassé (Karie) of Liverpool. He is also survived by 19 beloved grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren, a sister, L. Susan Chassé of Van Buren, ME, sisters-in-law, Suzanne Arvidson and Nancy Kemnitz, a brother-in law, Dr. Joseph Kemnitz (Amanda), and many nieces and nephews.

Emilio was born on May 31, 1932 to Marie and Bélonie Chassé in VanBuren, Maine. The twelfth of fourteen children, he grew up loving adventure and the outdoors. He was especially talented in writing but excelled as well in mathematics in high school. Emilio joined the Air Force in 1950 and worked in a radar bomb scoring squadron in Dallas, TX.

It was in Dallas that Emilio met and married Betty. After completing his commitment to the Air Force, they moved to Upstate New York where Emilio had accepted a position at General Electric. GE designed, manufactured, and tested radar and sonar systems for the Department of Defense. He spent his entire 37-year career at GE, working in Test and then in Quality Control management. While there he assisted in the design of the guidance system for the Atlas Missile. During his tenure there, he completed courses at LeMoyne College, Syracuse University, and GE's management school in Croton-on-Hudson, NY. He also earned a Professional Engineering License. He was a proud and respected member of the GE Elfun Society.

Emilio was an active member of Christ the King Church in Liverpool. He taught religious education, was a Eucharistic minister, and assisted with the church outreach program for many years. Helping others was important to Emilio, as evidenced by his six years of service on the Liverpool Schools Board of Education and his more than 20 years volunteering at St. Joseph's Hospital as a weekly visitor and Eucharistic minister.

An avid outdoorsman, Emilio enjoyed hunting, fishing, skiing, camping, and gardening. When he retired, he found pleasure in the kitchen perfecting a wide array of recipes while he whistled or sang his favorite tunes. For Emilio, though, faith and family came first. He and Betty shared a beautiful love that was marked by many happy times together raising their children, traveling throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe, and abundant joy in the home they built together back in the 1950's. Emilio was a devoted provider and an outstanding father. He was an enchanting storyteller, a tireless adventurer, and a consummate example to his children. He loved Jesus, Mary, and Joseph and trusted them with a sweet, reverent faith.

Although he will be dearly missed, his loved ones find comfort in knowing he is no longer encumbered by the physical challenges he patiently endured in his final years. The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to those who provided care for Emilio and prayed for him during his last years.
