Gerald P.
Barnes
June 9, 1953 – March 15, 2024
Gerald "Butch" P. Barnes, 70, formerly of Clay, NY and a resident of Central Square, NY for the past two years, passed away unexpectedly on Friday from injuries sustained in an ATV accident. Butch was born and raised in Syracuse, NY. In 1971, he was united in marriage to the former Virginia "Ginger" Bessette, a blessed union of 50 years until her passing in 2021. In 1977, they moved to Horseshoe Island in Clay where they lived for 44 years. Butch retired as a Heavy Duty Mechanic for the Onondaga County Department of Sanitation and Drainage, after 37 years of employment.
Butch was a one-of-a-kind man. He was an amazing father and worked his entire life to provide for his family. He loved his kids more than anything, always checking on their safety and well-being. Butch was an avid hunter and outdoorsman, that was his happy place! He could be found on Wednesdays at Daily's Pour House in Brewerton having his "First One Today". His outgoing personality and warm smile will be missed by everyone that ever knew him. To know him was to love him. Butch was a member of the American Legion Post 787 in Cicero, NY, Oneida Lake Association and Life-time member of the NRA.
Surviving are his beloved children; Kevin (Tiffany) Barnes and Lance (Jennifer) Barnes both of Central Square, NY, Mindy Barnes (Shawn Price) of Parish, NY, his brother, Gary Barnes of Mattydale, NY, nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
