Obituary

Girard "Jerry" Thomas Scalzo, 66, formerly of Liverpool, NY and currently residing in Loris, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 27, 2026. Born on July 4, 1959, in Syracuse, New York, Jerry's life began on a day that celebrates independence and light, fitting for a man whose gentle strength and quiet presence left a lasting glow on everyone he met.

Jerry was the beloved son of the late Basil and Betty Scalzo. After completing his education, Jerry began what would become a remarkable 42-year career at Lockheed Martin, where many lifelong relationships were formed.

Jerry was a devoted husband, father, brother, and friend.  In 1982, Jerry married the love of his life, Sandra "Sandy" Scalzo. Their 43 years together were a beautiful journey built on mutual respect, unwavering support, and shared adventures. Together, they raised three children, Nicole, Sean, and Eric, who were the greatest joys of his life. Jerry's legacy continues through them, as well as in the countless memories of family trips, laughter-filled gatherings, and the quiet moments spent together.

A gifted handyman and lifelong tinkerer, Jerry was always ready to lend a hand or find a clever fix. He enjoyed traveling with Sandy, visiting family, and hitting the golf course whenever he could. Outside of work and family, he also found joy as a community DJ, bringing music and smiles to local events, one more way he shared his warmth and humor with others.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Sandra; their children, Nicole (Stephen) Hoover, Sean Scalzo, and Eric (Megan) Scalzo; his sister, Peggy McNeil; brother-in laws Ed Higgins and Ron (Pat) Higgins; and many loving nieces, nephews and cousins.

A celebration of Jerry's life will be held on Saturday, April 4, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Home Team Pub, 7990 Oswego Road, Liverpool, New York. Family and friends are invited to gather, share stories, and honor a life well lived.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the American Heart Association, PO Box 840692, Dallas TX 75284-0692.
