Gordon W. Nugent, 86, of North Syracuse, NY died peacefully on September 12, 2021 after spending Saturday afternoon on his front porch with family, friends and his wife, Donnie.
He was born on February 20, 1935 in Syracuse, NY, the last surviving of 10 children born to Carroll and Edna Nugent of Fairmount, NY. Gordon attended Liverpool High School where he played basketball. He lived in Fairmount, Liverpool and North Syracuse. He worked for Dick Fellows and John Dudley Construction Companies before starting his own small business.
Gordon enjoyed playing golf, going to SU basketball, working in the yard and in his shop. He took pride in making wood crafts to give to others. He especially liked traveling in his RV.
Gordon is predeceased by his first wife, Ann in 1988. He married Donnie on September 15, 1990.
Gordon leaves behind his wife, Donnie; five children, Debby (David) Barnes of Albany, NY, Gordon Nugent of Auburn, NY, Darlene (Lee) Penrod of Hastings, NY, Dean (Sharon) Nugent of Bridgeport, NY, Beth (Bill) Mahoney of Clay, NY; seven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; two stepchildren, Lisa Cangemi of Mattydale and Michael (Laura) Cangemi of Syracuse, NY; two sister's-in-law, Caroline Nugent of Syracuse, NY and Anita Duncan of Greenville, SC; two brothers-in-law, Bill (Pat) Van Dyke of East Syracuse, NY and Les Gardner of Greenville, SC and several nieces & nephews.
Calling hours will be Friday, September 17, 2021 from 4:00-7:00 pm with a funeral service to follow at 7:00 pm at the Maurer Funeral Home, 300 Second Street, Liverpool, NY 13088. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Habitat for Humanity, Cicero UMC Outreach Committee and Webster Pond Visitor Center Fund.
