On May 5, 2024 our beloved father, Peter Welge, passed away in peace, at the age of 92, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Syracuse N.Y. He was born in Basel, Switzerland on Sept. 5, 1931. He lived in Germany till the age of 7 when he and his Omi traveled to the United States of America to be reunited with his father Dr. Morton Welge.
Peter graduated from Barker High School in Barker, NY. He enlisted in the US Army during the Korean War, serving in the 11th Airborne Division, where he was a paratrooper instructor. Upon honorable discharge, Peter attended Tri-State College, in Indiana, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering.
Peter married Janet L. Winters, of Lockport, N.Y. in 1954. They were married 46 years before Janet passed away in 2001. Peter and Janet lived in Indiana, Louisiana, Illinois and Wisconsin before settling in Liverpool N.Y. Peter worked as a Manufacturers Rep and was able to start his own business retiring at the age of 55. He and Janet enjoyed traveling and as travel agents they started "Cruises Inc.", where they could share their passion for small ship cruises.
As an amateur magician, Peter mystified family and friends. He also enjoyed camping, boating, fishing and investing in the stock market. He actually taught a stock investing class to residents at the Nottingham Senior Living Home, as late as, 2021 & 2022. Peter claimed to have completed his "Bucket List" and spent his final 18 years enjoying life with Anna Giacobbe, who survives him. Never too late, Peter found the Lord at the age of 90. Friends and family would describe Peter as, reliable, loyal, generous, organized and disciplined, brave, adventurous and intelligent. Peter is predeceased by his wife, Janet Welge, his brother-in-law Gerald Winters, his sister, Suzanne Welge and his brother, Morton Welge.
He is survived by his sister Dorathy "Dode" Gallo, of Pine City, NY, three children; Thomas (Lisa) Welge of Tulsa, OK, Diana Welge of Baldwinsville, NY and Lori (Greg) Houppert of Webster, NY, five grandchildren, Morgan Welge Peuker, Mark Thomas Houppert, McKenzie Welge Leon, Kara Houppert Ingalls and Mason Welge and three great-grandchildren; Dean and Ben Peuker and Nathan Ingalls.
Private Funeral Services with military honors will be held at Onondaga County Veterans Memorial Cemetery Chapel at a future date.
