Obituary

On Tuesday, July 6th, Harriett Hope (Whitcomb) Pitcher, formerly of Centerville Court, North Syracuse, peacefully left this earth at the age of 87, surrounded by loving family in Jenks, OK.

Born on June 11,1937 in Rochester, NY, Harriett was raised by her mother, Ruth Williams and maternal grandmother, Jane Williams in Rome, NY and lived a life full of love, joy, compassion, and humor.

As a child, Harriett was known for her adventurous spirit. She ran through fields, climbed trees, and tumbled into daring situations. Some were more daring than others. One such escapade left her with a lifelong souvenir, a bullet in her leg and a tall tale that she shared with several generations of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

As an adult, Harriett's indomitable spirit matured into a love for good food, good fun, and good friends. She never passed up a sweet, rarely left a plate unfinished, and her grandchildren could always count on her for a quick ice cream run. Harriett also loved games of all kinds, relishing both the challenge and camaraderie. And, of course, she always played to win. But most will remember Harriett for her remarkable love of others. That deep and unconditional affection shone through in her many friendships and the warm conversations she often struck up with strangers. Longtime friends were especially fortunate to receive her active devotion and participation in their lives. Yet her heart still had room for more, and so Harriett always doted on her and her family's many dogs, cats, rabbits, and ferrets.

Finally, Harriett had a love of places and connections. In New York, she and her family cherished the Adirondack Mountains, where they spent many summers on its pristine lakes and trails. Abroad, Harriett had the pleasure of visiting her ancestral homeland of Wales three times to meet distant cousins and dip her toes into the Irish Sea.

Harriett is survived by her children, including her three daughters, Julie Pitcher, Laurie (Wade) Teague and Amy Adams (Larry) Spade; her son, Robert (Karen) Pitcher; her sisters through marriage, Janice Pitcher, Barbara Kerr, Norma Soutar and Mary Atkinson; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; many dear, longtime friends; her regal cat, Mr. Bigglesworth (Biggles); and her purple poodle. Harriett cherished her family deeply and was a devoted mother, always putting her children (and Biggles) first.

Harriett's life was a testament to the joy of simple pleasures and the importance of kindness and love. She touched the lives of many and will be remembered for her generous spirit, her laughter, and her unwavering love for those around her.
