October 8, 1926 – February 17, 2023
H elen C. (Zinkovitch) Windhausen, 96, of Liverpool, NY passed away peacefully in her sleep at home on Friday. She was born and raised in Syracuse, graduating from the Catherdral Catholic Academy High School. Helen continued her education attending Powelson Business Institute, receiving her Associate's degree in Accounting. On May 30, 1947 she was united in marriage to Frederick R. Windhausen, a blessed union of 65 years until his passing in 2012. While raising nine children, Helen worked as an Account Clerk for the Onondaga County Parks Department for 20 years, retiring in 1991. A lifelong passion, Helen was an avid bowler for over 45 years, until the age of 90 and was a member of the Flamingo Ladies League. She volunteered at Sainte Marie among the Iroquois, Old French Fort in Liverpool and was instrumental in the creation of the annual Irish Road Bowling Tournament. Helen was an active parishioner of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, serving as Eucharistic Minister and a member of the Altar Rosary Society. In addition to her husband, she is predeceased by her grandson, Donald Duke, two brothers, Edward and James Zinkovitch and her sister, Elizabeth Bovenzi.
Surviving to cherish her memory are her six daughters; Carol (Anthony) Calogero, Jr., Nancy Duke, Donna (Walter) Peters, Joanne (Clark) Whitney, Susan Badalamenti, Beth (Daniel) Morison, three sons; David Windhausen, Daniel (Judith) Windhausen, Steven (Tracy) Windhausen, 18 grandchildren, 12 great- grandchildren, 7 great-great-grandchildren, her brother, Peter (Nancy) Zinkovitch and many nieces and nephews.
A calling hour will be held on Tuesday, February 21, 2023 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am in Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 425 Beechwood Ave, Liverpool, NY 13088 with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 11:00 am. The Rite of Committal and entombment will take place in St. Mary's Cemetery Mausoleum, DeWitt, NY.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to St. Joseph's Hospital or the American Heart Association.
