Ira W. Showden, 83, of Liverpool, NY passed away on Tuesday, July 7, 2026 at Elderwood at Liverpool. He was born in Clearfield, PA, son of the late Ira and Geneva Showden. Ira graduated from Indiana University of Pennsylvania earning his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Education. He began his teaching career in Ovid, NY. He also taught in Central Square before coming to Liverpool. Ira retired in 1998 as a social studies teacher at Liverpool High School. He was an active member of King of Kings Lutheran Church, serving on their church council and initiated the construction of the church’s pavilion. Ira was an avid baseball fan, especially rooting for the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Ira will be remembered as a thoughtful, kind and gentle man. He had a great sense of humor, was always willing to help others and liked by all who knew him. He is predeceased by his wife, Karen L. Showden in 2010 and two sisters, Ruth Brininger and Sally Burwell.
Surviving to cherish his memory are his loving companion of 15 years, Mary Pat McLaughlin of Liverpool, NY; his daughter, Krista Allen of Apalachin, NY; two grandchildren, Makayla and Damien; Mary Pat’s children, who were very close to him, Michael McLaughlin, Justin (Kelly) McLaughlin, Maryrose (Orestes) Artini; his sister, Nancy Bartlett; close friends, Debby and Charlie Bang and Dawnell and Mike Jager, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, July 14, 2026 from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm at the Maurer Funeral Home Moyers Corners, 3541 State Route 31, Baldwinsville, NY. Funeral services will follow at 3:00 pm. Private burial will be held in Pine Plains Cemetery, Clay, NY.
