Obituary

James E. Cain, 83, of Liverpool, NY passed away unexpectedly on Sunday. He was born and raised in Mankato, Minnesota, a son of the late Raymond J. and Ida (Rose) Cain. After graduating from Loyola High School, Jim joined the United States Air Force. His enlistment spanned over 26 years and many locations, both domestic and international. Eventually Jim landed at Hancock Field in Syracuse, NY, where he met Susan Martin. After being honorably discharged as a Master Sergeant, Jim began a 19-year career as a Mail Handler at the United States Postal Service in Syracuse, retiring in 2004. Jim enjoyed summers with family and friends at camp on Sandy Pond. He loved listening to early rock 'n roll and classic country music, especially Elvis Presley and Johnny Cash. Jim was an avid Minnesota Vikings fan and liked working in his garden. He was a member of the Sandy Pond Sportsman Association. Jim is predeceased by his beloved wife of 40 years, Susan J. (Martin) Cain, his brother, Richard Cain and sister, Kathleen Cain.

Surviving to cherish his memory are his children; Michael (Wendy) Cain, Christina (Fidel) Rodriguez, Mary (Julio) Mercedes, Theresa (James) Schardt, Elizabeth (Craig) Avery, Edward (Rebecca) LaChanse, Jr., Laurie LaChanse (Robert Cooney), 11 grandchildren; Gabriella, Kristopher, Selena, Jailee, Clayton, Julia, Amanda, Vivian, Carleigh, Dylan, Matthew, 6 great-grandchildren, two brothers, twin Gerald Cain and David (Diane) Cain, several nieces and nephews.

A calling hour will be held on Saturday, January 14, 2023 from 9:00 am to 10:00 am in Christ the King Church, 21 Cherry Tree Circle, Liverpool, NY, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00 am. The Rite of Committal and burial with Full Military honors will take place in Onondaga County Veterans Memorial Cemetery at a time and date to be announced.
