James "Jim" Robert Carruthers, 85, of Liverpool, NY passed away peacefully on Wednesday at St. Joseph's Hospital Health Center. He was born on June 5, 1940 in Syracuse, NY to the late William and Dolores (Smith) Carruthers. Jim graduated from Liverpool High School, Class of 1958 and earned his Associate's Degree in 1960 from Mohawk Valley Technical Institute. On July 28, 1962 he was united in marriage to the former Patricia K. Payne, a blessed union of 63 years. Jim worked for General Electric in semiconductor manufacturing and then was employed by Qualitron as a Quality Control Manager. He spent the remaining years of his career as an Industrial Salesman for U.S. Materials Handling Corp.

Jim was a life-long member of St. Matthew's Episcopal Church in Liverpool, NY. He was very active in the church community, where he served as an usher, vestryman, and warden. In addition, he was one of the founders of the Bill Jones St. Matthew's Golf Tournament which funds scholarships for graduating seniors of the parish.  Jim had a great love of sports and music, especially SU football and basketball, the Yankees, the Bills, golf and jazz. One of his greatest accomplishments was his 2nd ever hole-in-one at the age of 84. His kind, easy going demeanor and sense of humor made him loved by everyone who knew him.  Jim's utmost love was for his family, his wife, daughters, son-in-law, grandchildren and great grandchildren.  In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his brother, William G. Carruthers, a beloved niece and many loving sisters and brothers-in-law.

Surviving to cherish his memory are his wife, Patricia Carruthers of Clay, NY, two daughters, Karen (Christopher) Clarke of Camillus, NY, and Robin Carruthers of DeWitt, NY. Also, his beloved grandchildren, Rachel Kreis, Philomena Coles-Carruthers, Finnian Coles-Carruthers, Ryann Lagoy, Joseph (Meghan) Clarke, Jessica (Shawn) Fetter, 5 great grandchildren, his nephew, Richard Carruthers and niece, Narine Crossland.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2026 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. in St. Matthew's Episcopal Church, 904 Vine St. Liverpool, NY 13088, with a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. and reception to follow.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Jim's memory may be made to St. Matthew's Episcopal Church.
