Obituary

James "JJ" Coyne of Liverpool, passed away peacefully at his home on August 13, 2022.  JJ was born and raised on the East side of Syracuse.  He was a graduate of Nottingham High School and also continued his education at OCC.  In 1957 JJ enlisted in the US Army and served as a Military Police Officer from 1957-1961.  On February 27, 1961, he joined the Onondaga County Sheriff's Department.  He served as a motorcycle police officer, was part of the AIT & TAC Teams and worked road patrol where he in his career wrote over 40,000 traffic tickets.

In 1985, he went to work as a part-time bus driver for CENTRO.  In 1999 JJ retired from the Sheriff's Department after almost 40 years of dedicated service. Following his retirement from the Sheriff's Department, he went on to become a Supervisor at CENTRO.

JJ loved riding on his Harley Davidson motorcycle with his buddie's of the "Guns & Hoses" motorcycle group.  He also enjoyed breakfast with "The Retirees".  He loved NASCAR and each year he would travel to the Daytona International Speedway for the Daytona 500 race.  He was a history buff, an avid reader of WWII, trains and of course Harley Davidson Motorcycles.  He enjoyed Pepsi and Ice Cream.  He loved playing with his grandchildren and his dog Penny.

JJ is survived by his wife of 42 years, Susan (Michaels) Coyne, daughter Amy Coyne-Morton (Joe Mahar), son Brian Coyne (Jocelyn Gushlaw), 4 grandchildren; Jake, Katie and Liza Morton, Dayton Coyne and 1 Granddogger Penny Coyne.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, August 17, 2022 from 4:00 – 7:00 pm at the Maurer Funeral Home, Inc., 300 Second Street, Liverpool, New York 13088.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in JJ"s memory to Helping Hounds, 7268 Caswell Avenue, North Syracuse, NY 13212.
