James Francis Doherty Jr. (III), 87, of Syracuse, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Thursday. James was born on August 15, 1935, in Manlius, NY, to the late James and Lila (Keating) Doherty.

He was a PGA professional golfer, inducted into the CNY PGA Hall of fame in 2014.  James began his golf career in 1958 at Teugega CC followed by Yahnundasis CC, McConnelsville CC and eventually became the first head Pro at Beaver Meadows CC, where he worked for 23 years. James was also a professional photographer and co-owned WMF associates, specializing in school photography. In addition to his parents, he is also predeceased by his siblings; Edmund, Richard, Kathryn, and Mary.

James is survived by his siblings; Frank, William, Joseph, Michael, and Rose as well as his 8 children; Kenneth (Kelly) Doherty, Phillip (Pati) Doherty, Paul (Carla) Doherty, David (Melissa) Doherty, Joanne (Tom) Grover, James (Katie) Doherty, Matthew (Denise) Doherty and Robert (Erica) Doherty, 17 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; his stepchildren; Scott, Patti, Cynthia, and Deborah.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday, December 29, 2022 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Maurer Funeral Home Moyers Corners, 3541 State Rt 31, Baldwinsville, NY 13027. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, December 30, 2022 at 10:00 am in St. Augustine's Church, 7499 Obrien Road, Baldwinsville, NY 13027. The Rite of Committal and burial will follow in Our Lady of Peace Cemetery, Baldwinsville, NY.

The family would like to thank the thousands of people that touched his life throughout the years.
