James E.
Harris
March 1, 1933 – January 10, 2024
James Ernest Harris, 90, of Liverpool, NY, passed away peacefully and gently at home on Wednesday, January 10, 2024.
Born in Hinton, WV, on March 1, 1933 to the late Dwight and Mary Harris. Jim graduated from Hinton High School, attended Concord College and received his bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from West Virginia University (WVU) in 1954.
After graduation he went to work for General Electric, took a leave of absence to serve in the U.S. Air Force, and returned to GE to continue what would be a 35 year career with that company. A large part of that career was spent in GE's Electronics Laboratory (E-Lab), initially in Ithaca, N.Y.
An early assignment with GE brought him to Waynesboro, VA where he met Ann, his wife of over 63 years. They married in 1960 and spent the first few years in Ithaca, NY before moving to Liverpool, NY, when Jim was transferred to GE on Electronics Parkway. They were joined by their daughter Cindy in 1967.
Jim was a very active member of Liverpool First United Methodist Church, serving at one time or another on almost every committee, including as a Trustee. He enjoyed traveling, hiking, photography, visiting his family, and tinkering around the house fixing things even when they were not "broken".
Jim is predeceased by his parents, his brother, John, and sister, Grace.
He leaves behind to treasure his memory, his wife, Ann, daughter, Cindy (Michael), sister, Naomi (Craig), and three brothers; Joseph, Daniel (Lydia), and David (Melissa) and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 am to 11:00 am on Wednesday, January 17, 2024 at Liverpool First United Methodist Church, 604 Oswego St., Liverpool, NY 13088, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 am to celebrate Jim's life.
The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, contributions in Jim's memory be made to Liverpool First United Methodist Church, 604 Oswego St., Liverpool, NY 13088.
Please sign the Maurer Funeral Home online guest book for Jim to express your condolences to his family.
