January 22, 1925 – January 21, 2026
Dr. James E. Lewis, 100, of Clay, NY, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 21, 2026 with his family by his side, one day before his 101st birthday.
Dr. Lewis was born and raised in Syracuse. Jim was a proud U.S. Navy veteran of WW II where he served aboard USS PC 1182 as a gunner's mate, and later in the Panama Canal zone. After hostilities ended, he returned to Syracuse and attended Syracuse University and Upstate Medical School on the GI bill. He married his wife, Catherine and enjoyed a long and happy marriage, raising their family in Clay, NY. He spent his professional career as a village physician in Liverpool. In retirement he enjoyed travel, woodworking, and other hobbies. He was a past member of the Syracuse Scottish Pipe Band and created a legacy of achievement in Scottish music and dance through his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Dr. Lewis was predeceased by his wife of 67 years, Catherine, who passed away April 10, 2020 and his daughter in law Mary Ann Lewis who died in 2016.
Surviving to cherish his memory are his son, Charlie Lewis, 3 daughters, Mary (Jim) Murphy, Kate (Don) Dixon, Pat (Steve) Ouellette, 10 grandchildren and many great grandchildren.
A calling hour will be held on Friday, January 30, 2026 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at the St. Stephen's Church, 469 Main Street, Phoenix, NY 13135. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 am at the Church. The Rite of Committal and burial will follow in Pine Plains Cemetery, Clay, NY.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Stephen's Church, 469 Main Street, Phoenix, NY 13135.
