James R. Maher, 89, of Liverpool, NY passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 17, 2023. James was born on September 17, 1934 in Syracuse, NY to Maurice and Viola (Ryan) Maher.  He graduated from St. Patrick's High School, Auburn Community College and Northern Michigan University. James served in the USMC at Marine Barracks, Washington, DC from 1952 – 1956 and was a member of Marine Corp League #224. James enjoyed a long and successful career, retiring after 36 years, as the Regional Underwriting Manager for NYS with Nationwide Insurance Company. James was a Communicant of Christ the King Church where he served as an usher and a member of their Finance Committee.  An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed golfing, fishing and boating. James was predeceased by his parents; brothers, Joseph Maher and Gerald Maher; sisters, Martha Palmer, Marie Cole, Mary Evans, Maureen Tranelli and Monica Miller.

James is survived by his wife, Ann Sullivan Maher of 62 years; a daughter, Molly Maher of Tucker, GA; a son, Tim Maher of Liverpool, NY; a sister, Margaret Paul; a brother, John Maher and many nieces and nephews.

A calling hour will be Wednesday, October 25, 2023 from 10:00 am – 11:00 am in Christ the King Church, 21 Cherry Tree Circle, Liverpool, NY followed by A Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am.  The Rite of Committal and burial will be private.
