December 31, 1934 – October 7, 2022
John E. Donohue, 87, of Baldwinsville, passed away at Francis House on October 7, 2022. John lived a life of service to the community of Syracuse. After serving for four years in the U.S. Navy, he returned back to his native Syracuse. Following in his father's footsteps he joined the Syracuse Police Department where he worked until 1979 retiring as a Police Captain. He was then appointed as the Chief Civil Deputy for the Onondaga County Sheriff's Department until his retirement
In addition to his public service, John was an avid golfer, and active parishioner of St. Joseph the Worker Church, Liverpool, for over 50 years.
John was predeceased by his first wife, Joan H. Donohue in 1998, and his second wife, Betty J. Donohue in 2019.
Surviving to cherish his memory are his children; Michael Donohue, Dan (Florence) Donohue, Susan (Chris) Carroll, Brian (Lynn) Donohue and Marybeth (Keith) Kobland; step-son, Fred (Kathy) Kuepper; five grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm, Thursday, October 13, 2022 at Maurer Funeral Home, 300 Second St., Liverpool, NY 13088. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Friday, October 14 th in St. Joseph the Worker Church, 1001 Tulip St., Liverpool, NY 13088. The Rite of Committal and burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Dewitt.
