Obituary

John Francis McDonough III, “Jack”, passed away at home following a lengthy battle with Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s on Thursday, August 20, 2026. Jack was born in Fort Monmouth, NJ, on March 4, 1955 to the late John and Bertha McDonough, the eldest of seven children. For 44 years, Jack was a worker’s compensation attorney, retiring in 2020 from the Olinsky Law Group. Jack stood up for everyday working people when they were knocked down or overlooked. He was a compassionate man.

Jack had a magnetic smile, deep and lasting friendships, and a legendary “giant teddy bear” nature. He loved his family, live Celtic and rock music (especially AC/DC), and the outdoors. In addition to his parents, Jack is predeceased by his brother, Michael.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years Dianna (Rule) McDonough; his children Kerry (Josh) McClauss, and Meghan (Danielle) McDonough; his siblings, Kevin (Suzy), Anne (Pete) Gavin, Catherine (Paul) Arvantides, Eileen, and Brendan; sister-in-law Christine (Bill) Barden, brothers-in-law Joseph and Robert (Michelle) Rule; very much loved grandson Miles McClauss; as well as many nieces, nephews, beloved close life-long friends, and loyal canine companion Maeve.

Disease took Jack’s memory towards the end of a long haul, but it is our job to keep our memory of him going. We will remember the sunshine he brought into our lives.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, August 26, 2026 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Maurer Funeral Home Moyers Corners, 3541 State Rt 31 Baldwinsville, NY. The Rite of Committal and inurnment will be held on Thursday, August 27, 2026 at 11:00 am in Our Lady of Peace Cemetery Mausoleum Chapel, 8668 Oswego Road, Baldwinsville, NY 13027.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Jack’s memory to Hospice of Central New York.
