John R. Litteer, 95, formerly of Liverpool, NY, passed away on Wednesday, February 5, 2025 at St. Joseph's Hospital, surrounded by his family. He was born at home in the small town of Weston, NY, to the late John H. and Ruth (Andrews) Litteer. John spent his youth hunting, fishing, and trapping. During the Korean War, he joined the United States Coast Guard, becoming a shipboard radio operator stationed in the Northeast. It was while serving that he met the love of his life and future wife, Joan Dawes. After leaving the service, he became one of American Airlines' first radio operators (air traffic controllers). He retired from American Airlines as Supervisor of Airport Services after 34 years of service. John was a member of the Massachusetts Radio Institute and the Liverpool Volunteer Fire Department. He was an avid fisherman and golfer, formerly belonging to Arrowhead Golf Course.

He is predeceased by his three sisters, Thelma Squires, Mary Jane Owen, and Jeanne Perkins.

Surviving to cherish his memory are his wife of 70 years, Joan D. Litteer, formerly of Liverpool, NY; and his children; Linda (William) Litteer-Ormond of Durham, NC, John S. (Julie) Litteer of Pennellville, NY, Barbara (Paul) Schikora of West Terre Haute, IN, Andrew A. (Diane) Litteer of Clay, NY, and Rebecca (Marty) Mounce of Baldwinsville, NY. John is also survived by nine grandchildren; Jamie (Shawn), Kelly (Eric), Lindsey (Michael), Paige, Kari (Lyra), Erin (Dan), Sarah, Andrew, and Zachary and seven great-grandchildren; Cecily, Bennett, Vivienne, Penelope, Corinne, Jonah, and Beckett and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, July 25, 2025 from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm at the Maurer Funeral Home Moyers Corners, 3541 State Rte 31 Baldwinsville, NY 13027. Military Honors will follow at 5:00 pm.
