August 6, 1938 – February 21, 2024
John Francis Slaski, 85, beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend was transferred to his final station to guard the streets of Heaven on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, surrounded by his loved ones. He was born in Syracuse, NY a son of the late John Slaski and Pauline (Staple) Slaski Bednarski. A proud US Veteran, John served a six-year tour of duty with his beloved Marine Corps. John spent 85 years of service to others and his community. He was a Deputy Sherriff with the Onondaga County Sherriff's Department and afterwards worked as an Investigator for the District Attorney's Office. John continued working security at Crucible Steel and ended his career driving bus for Trailways. After retirement he continued his allegiance to his country. He was a life member of the Marine Corps League, Chaplin, member of the Vietnam Veterans of America and volunteered at Hancock Airport at the Military Courtesy Room. John, along with Pat, attended many Holiday dinners supporting Clear Path for Veterans. His greatest passion has always been the Marine Corps, it's history and exemplified the Few, the Proud and always faithful, Semper FI, Marine. He was a member for many years of the Archbishop Curley Knights of Columbus, Syracuse Brigadiers Drum and Bugle Corps and drove bus for the Fulton Gauchos. In addition to his parents, John is predeceased by two sons, James and Michael and half-brother, Gerald Bednarski.
Surviving to cherish his memory are his wife of 45 years, Patricia (Monahan) Slaski, daughter, Darcy, two sons, Joseph and Richard Slaski, three grandchildren; Gabrielle (Roland) Martin, Zackery Slaski and Molly Slaski, several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held on Monday, February 26, 2024 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Maurer Funeral Home Moyers Corners, 3541 State Rt 31 Baldwinsville, NY with funeral services and military honors to follow at 7:00 pm at the funeral home. The Rite of Committal and burial will be in Onondaga County Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in John's memory can be made to the Greater Syracuse Marine Corps League, PO Box 104, Syracuse, NY 13206.
