Joseph P. Roach, 79, of Central Square, passed away Thursday, August 11, 2022. He was born April 6, 1943 in Syracuse to Patrick and Catherine Roach. Joe was a veteran of the U.S. Navy having served from 1961 until his honorable discharge in 1966. He was employed for 35 years with the Carrier Corporation as an Inspector until his retirement in 1998. He continued working part time as a carrier with the Brewerton Village Pharmacy. Joe enjoyed attending sporting events especially Syracuse University games, PITT games and the Big East Basketball Championship. He was a referee for women's basketball teams and enjoyed visiting the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown.

Joe is survived by his wife of 35 years, Patricia A. Roach, his children; Kevin (Heather) Roach of Pittsburgh, PA, Erin (Jeffrey Heick) Halpin of Liverpool and Lauren Roach of Central Square; his step-children, Richard (Carol) VanOrden of Brewerton, William (Wendi) VanOrden of Norwich, Jean (Tom) Pallotta of Hastings, Ray (Joyce) VanOrden of Prescott, AZ and Patricia (Jim) Colwell of North Syracuse; he was affectionately known as "Papa Joe" by his 15 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.  In addition to his parents, Joe is predeceased by his brothers, Jack and Edward Roach and by a step-daughter, Mary Ann VanDyke.

Calling hours will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 pm on Monday, August 15, 2022 at Maurer Funeral Home Moyers Corners, 3541 Rt 31, Baldwinsville, NY 13027.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Tuesday, August 16, 2022 at Divine Mercy Parish in Central Square. The Rite of Committal and burial will be in Our Lady of Peace Cemetery.
