July 13, 1935 – February 12, 2025
Karen A. Barton of Baldwinsville, NY died February 12, 2025 at the age of 89.
Mrs. Barton, the former Karen Smith, was born July 13, 1935 in Utica, NY and graduated in 1953 from New York Mills High School. In 1956, she married W. Paul Barton, in a loving union that lasted 68 years until her death.
Karen was a devoted wife and mother. She loved children, but lost both of her own, Cheryl and Gregory Barton, to Cystic Fibrosis.
She lived with her family in Kentucky, Vermont, Westchester County, New York and Connecticut before moving to Baldwinsville with her husband in 1993. While living in Ridgefield, CT for more than 20 years, she worked for a time in sales, where she excelled due to her engaging personality and rapport with people.
Karen was a very loyal friend. While living away from Central New York most of her adult life, she continued to maintain relationships with friends she had made even before kindergarten. Karen was a bird lover, an Internet enthusiast and avidly interested in politics.
Karen is predeceased by her parents, Charles and Ethel Smith and her sister and husband, Kathleen and Gordon Scofield and brother-in-law, Wayne Barton.
Surviving besides her husband, Paul, are her niece, Rennay Barton and husband, Gary Schwartz and their children, Riley and Emma; niece Kathy Charlton and husband, Rich and their children, Logan and Garrett; nephews, Glenn (Kristen) Scofield and Dan (Jeanne) Scofield and their son, Daniel; niece, Jennifer Harris, nephew, Glenn Barton, and several cousins.
