Obituary

Karin Airel, 81, of Liverpool, NY died peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, May 5th, 2024.  She was born in Berlin, Germany on October 5, 1942 to Berta Rodenwald and Bruno Seroczynski and grew up in post WWII Berlin. After graduating from high school, she met her lifetime partner and husband Edward Airel and soon after moved from Germany to Lyndhurst, New Jersey to raise a family of her own.

After her marriage in 1962, she adapted quickly and in 1977, was naturalized.  Karin's love for her family was unfailing. She also loved cats, gardening, travel, and playing cards. She loved family vacations and enjoyed outings with friends and family, would meet regularly with her "coffee klatsch", and especially loved being spoiled on Mother's Day. Karin is predeceased by her two sons, Edward and Mark, two sisters, Christa and Liselotte and her brother Heinz.

Karin is survived by her husband of 62 years, Edward C. Airel, Jr., son Bryan (Lisa) Airel, grandson, Anthony James and her sister, Inge (John).

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, May 14, 2024 at 10:00 am in St. John the Baptist Church, 406 Court Street, Syracuse, NY 13208. The Rite of Committal and inurnment will follow in Our Lady of Peace Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Karin's name to the All Faiths Food Pantry at 406 Court Street, Syracuse NY 13208.
