Hurst
July 5, 1919 – April 25, 2022
Kenneth P. Hurst, 102, a lifetime resident of Liverpool, passed away April 25, 2022.
Known as "Mr. Liverpool" by many, Kenneth was a WWII Veteran and an active member of the Liverpool American Legion, Post 188, where he became commander in 1957 and Legionnaire of the year in 1971. During his life he was instrumental in the creation of Johnson Park and established the Veterans Cemetery. He was a member of Liverpool's Civil Defense as well as served as Director of Veterans Service's for Onondaga County. He donated the family willow shop, which is now the Willow Museum in Liverpool. He was the owner and operator of the S&K family grocery store. For his dedication, Kenneth was recognized as Liverpool's Citizen of the year in 1990.
He was predeceased by his wife, Shirley Moyer Hurst in 2012 and son, Kenneth J.D. Hurst, in 1992.
Surviving to cherish his memory are his children, Kerry Hurst of Liverpool, NY, Kristopher (Carolina) Hurst of Napa, CA, Sally Senecal of Constantia, NY and Susan Blanding, of Fulton, NY; eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are Monday, May 2, 2022 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm with a service to follow at 1:00 pm in Maurer Funeral Home, 300 Second St., Liverpool. Burial with military honors will follow in Liverpool Village Cemetery.
Memorial contributions in Kenneth's memory may be made to the American Legion Post 188, 205 Cypress St., Liverpool, NY 13088.
