Swetland
August 24, 1928 – June 17, 2022
Lynn Edwin Swetland, 93, passed away on Friday at the Veterans Medical Center in Syracuse. Lynn attended Lyncourt Jr. High School and graduated from Vocational High School. He was a graduate of Syracuse University where he received his Bachelor of Science in Business, then went on to complete his Master's Degree in Business Administration. In 1946 he enlisted in the United States Marine Corp. He completed two tours of duty in Vietnam and after 24 years of service retired with the rank of Master Sergeant. Some of his previous employment included M & T Bank, Allis-Chalmers and Kabota Tractors. Lynn along with his wife, Marilyn, presently owned and operated the H.C. Bainbridge Flag Co. in Syracuse for over 40 years. Being a business owner gave him the joy of interacting with his customers, sharing stories, laughs and helping them in any way he could with their needs. He was an avid Syracuse University sports fan. Lynn was a season ticket holder for the Football, Basketball and Lacrosse games for over 30 years. He was Past President of the Fleet Reserve Association.
Lynn was also a member of the Marine Corps League, Constantia VFW Post 7325, Liverpool American Legion, Post 188, Onondaga County Veteran Association, Syracuse Turners, and The Pastime Club. Lynn is predeceased by his parents, Lynn and Anna Swetland.
Surviving to cherish his memory are his wife of 73 years Marilyn (Koagel) Swetland, his son, David (Marylynne) Swetland of Michigan, two daughters; Jill (Michael) Slocum of Liverpool, and Jodi (Matt) Weinert of Tonawanda, NY, sister Suzanne Filicia of Liverpool, 9 Grandchildren, 6 Great-grandchildren, 2 Great-great-grandchildren, several Nieces and Nephews, 5 Grand dogs, 6 Great-grand dogs and 1 Great-great-grand dog. Lynn's greatest enjoyment was spending time, sharing stories and laughter with his family.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, June 22, 2022 from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at the Maurer Funeral Home, Inc. 300 Second St. Liverpool. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, June 23, 2022 at 10:00 am at Sacred Heart Church, 8229 South Main St., Cicero, NY 13039 with The Rite of Committal and Entombment and Military Honors to follow in Woodlawn Cemetery Mausoleum, Syracuse, NY.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Lynn's memory may be made to the Humane Association of CNY, 4915 West Taft Road, Liverpool, NY 13088 or Clear Path for Veterans, 1223 Salt Springs Rd., Chittenango, NY 13037
