Margaret Mildred
Badger
March 4, 1928 – November 24, 2023
Margaret "Peggy" Mildred (Bowes) Badger, a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, peacefully passed away on the evening of November 24, 2023, in Liverpool, N.Y., at the age of 95, surrounded by family members.
Born in Ogdensburg, N.Y., to the late John and Mary (McGinnis) Bowes, she graduated in the Class of 1945 from St. Mary's Academy in Ogdensburg, N.Y., and subsequently attended and graduated as an RN from the A. Barton Hepburn Nursing School and Hospital in Ogdensburg, N.Y.
She married Malcolm "Mac" Badger in October 1950, and they relocated to the Syracuse, N.Y., area, settling in Liverpool. She worked as a Registered Nurse at St. Joseph's Hospital in Syracuse until 1966. Peggy then established and operated Mill End Fabrics from their home in Liverpool, where she formed a multitude of lifelong friendships.
In the summer and fall, she and Mac enjoyed their leisure time at their cottage on Lake Ontario in Henderson Harbor, where she loved the sunsets and could never have enough photos of the sun setting across the lake. Peggy will be especially missed for her dry wit and sense of humor. Peggy was dedicated to her faith and was an active parishioner of the former Immaculate Heart of Mary Church.
In addition to her parents, Margaret is predeceased by her husband, Mac, a son, Richard and three brothers and sisters-in-law Jack (Jean), Peter (Joyce), and Robert (Ann) Bowes.
Margaret is survived by her five sons: Michael (Janet), Robert (Kristen), William (Kelly), James (Peggy), and Douglas (Lisa); as well as her daughter MaryBeth (Jim). She leaves behind a legacy that also includes Nancy Badger and extends through twelve grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, November 30, 2023 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at the Maurer Funeral Home, Inc., 300 Second St., Liverpool, NY 13088. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, December 1, 2023 at 11:00 am in Catholic Family of Epiphany Church (Formerly Immaculate Heart of Mary Church), 1001 Tulip St., Liverpool, NY 13088. The Rite of Committal and burial will follow in Assumption Cemetery, Syracuse, NY.
The Family would like to thank the entire staff at Elderwood at Liverpool for their care and compassion displayed towards Margaret.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the ALS Association, (In memory of Pat Bowes, her nephew) Upstate NY Chapter, 135 Old Cove Road, Suite 213, Liverpool, NY 13090.
