Marie (Tagliente) Pettit died peacefully on January 19, 2022. She lived a life devoted to her family, friends, and her faith. Born in Cortland, she lived in Syracuse where she raised two children, with her husband George.  Marie loved to help others. She spent more than 30 years as a Community Assistant at Seymour School in Syracuse, where she helped countless young women and their children succeed in a supportive environment. Outside of school, she enjoyed socializing with her friends, spending quality time with her extended family, and decorating her home. Marie also believed strongly in the power of education and focused tirelessly on teaching her grandchildren to read and write. After her retirement, she continued to display her kindness by fostering and adopting rescue cats.  Marie is predeceased by her parents, Dan and Angelina Tagliente, her husband of 50 years, George and sister, Pauline Morton.

She is survived by her daughter, Kelly (Tim) Burkett, son Jon, her brother, Dan (Carolyn) Tagliente, grandchildren, Alexa Rae and Daniel Patrick Burkett, and many nieces and nephews.

A calling hour will be held on Friday, January 28, 2022 at 10:00 am in Holy Cross Church, 4112 East Genesee Street, Dewitt, NY, 13214 followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am.  Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Cortland, NY.

Marie will be forever missed.  Our hearts are broken over the loss of this mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She will be forever missed by the many people whose lives she touched.
