Obituary

Martin F. Manning, Jr. of Liverpool passed away on Saturday, August 10, 2013 at Crouse Hospital, with his loving wife Darlene at his side. Born April 15, 1929 in Bronx, New York, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps at age 17, and 3 years later was accepted at the United States Naval Academy (USNA '52). During his a distinguished career as an officer in the US Marine Corps, he received the World War II Victory Medal, China Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, and the Vietnam Service Medal. He retired as a LtCol. in 1972 and moved his family to Liverpool, NY. He taught high school at St. John the Baptist in Syracuse from 1972 - 1974 and Christian Brothers Academy in Syracuse from 1974 until 1993, when he retired to become a full time caregiver for his beloved wife, Lynn who had Alzheimer's disease. After Lynn's death in 2002, he was fortunate enough to be blessed with the love of his second wife, Darlene. They married in 2007 and she survives him. Marty spent many years as a volunteer and Board member of the Alzheimer's Association Central New York Chapter, and was also a member of the Marine Corps Association and Meals on Wheels. He selflessly gave of his time to various other charitable organizations and served many years as a communicant and lector at Christ the King Parish in Liverpool. He spent his later years as an avid reader, gardener, cook, and stayed apprised of the events of the world. Marty is predeceased by his wife of 45 years, Lynn (Kirby) and is survived by his wife, Darlene (Wagner). He is brother to Joan Privrat (John) of Nutley, NJ and Janet McGlauflin (Charles) of Kendall Park, NJ; father to Marianne Decker of Bridgeport (Larry Sarkin), Elizabeth Coppens (Thomas) of Hartford, NY, Kathleen Smith (Lewis) of Orange, VA, Suzanne Wronsky (Christopher) of Potomac, MD, Martin Manning III (Linda) of Baldwinsville, Maria Donahue (Richard) of Liverpool, and Meg Koetz (Glenn) of Kennett Square, PA. Marty is grandfather to Sara, Rachel, Benjamin, Patrick, Brandon, Tara, Michael, Eric, Kyle, Emily, Matthew, Abby, Olivia & Riley and many grand-dogs. Marty is stepfather to Catherine Barnes, Gregory Alton, Mark Alton, John Alton, Jennifer Levine, Heather Dibble, Roxanne Alton, and Aaron Miner and grandfather to their children Kristen, John, Shane, Alex, Ashley, Alyssa, Lindsey, Emily, Josh, Tim, Caitlyn, Grace & Eve. Marty & Darlene had 5 great-grandchildren (Ryan, Reese, Madelynn, Michael, and Anthony) and many devoted nieces & nephews. Calling hours will be held from 2 - 7 pm on Tuesday, August 13, 2013 at Maurer Funeral Home Moyers Corners, 3541 State Rt. 31, Baldwinsville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at Christ the King Church, 21 Cherry Tree Circle, Liverpool.
