Marvin M. Patnode, 79, of Liverpool, NY, passed away on July 12, 2023.  Marv, a loving husband, father, and grandfather, is survived by his wife of 16 years, Sandi Patnode; daughters, Lisa (Jon) Jenson and Becca Patnode, grandchildren; Gavin, Molly, Whalen, Kate, Aren, Leif, and Luke; and canine buddy, Jeter.

Born October 2, 1943 to Herbert A. Patnode and M. Loretta (Croyer) Patnode. Marv graduated from Plattsburgh High school in 1962. Applying characteristic determination, intelligence and focus, he earned a BS in mechanical engineering from Syracuse University and a position as mechanical engineer and technical educator with Carrier Corporation. Thirty-three years later, he founded Traincom, a tech-education consulting company that he ran from his Liverpool residence. Coworkers, clients, and students alike consistently praised his ability to untangle complex concepts with boundless intelligence, patience, and clarity.

Marv enjoyed reading, photography, carpentry, basketball, hiking, biking, golf, kayaking, and boating, especially alongside Sandi; he was a lifetime SU basketball fan. Applying the same diligence to his personal interests as to his career. Marv earned multiple top-10 Nascar ski rankings, served as president of the Onondaga Ski Club, and built a beautiful house by hand.

Quietly generous in heart and spirit, Marv was dedicated to helping his family and those around him to flourish. Those who knew him well will remember him as an affable, absent-minded professor, remarkable for his depth of integrity, kindness, patience, and insight. His playful humor, bad puns, unmistakable laugh, and tendency to drive off with various items still on the car roof will be dearly missed.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Onondaga Yacht Club, 101 Sycamore Street, Liverpool, NY 13088 on Saturday, September 2, 2023 from 2:00 pm – 5:00 pm.
