Mary Eileen
Clarke
August 8, 1949 – May 13, 2025
Mary Eileen (DeLaney) Clarke joined the angels, surrounded by the love of her devoted family, following a sudden and unexpected health issue. Born in Elmira, New York, on August 8, 1949, Eileen was the cherished daughter of the late Thomas C. and Sara (McCarthy) DeLaney. In 1971, Eileen married the love of her life, John Clarke of Vestal, NY—her soulmate and best friend since their college days. Together, they shared 54 extraordinary years filled with love, laughter, and a deep commitment to family and community.
Eileen's greatest joy was her family. Her loving husband and children survive her: John Clarke, now of Glenmont, NY, Katherine (Jeremy) Gregory of Arlington, MA, Andrew (Lynsey) Clarke of Pelham, NY, and Ellen (Steven, aka. Smitty) Verrone of Boonton, NJ. Her heart overflowed with pride for her seven beloved grandchildren, who brought light and delight to her every day: Thomas Clarke Gregory, Benjamin Clarke Gregory, Darcy Elizabeth Towers Clarke, Elizabeth Clarke Gregory, Giuliana Sara Verrone, Maria Assunta Verrone, and Elena Towers Verrone.
Eileen always considered herself to be fortunate to come from a large family of 6 brothers and 3 sisters: John (Elizabeth) DeLaney of Syracuse, NY, Thomas DeLaney of Elmira, NY, Sara (Paul) Goldberg of Delmar, NY, Ann (Brian, deceased) Deacon of East Syracuse, NY, James DeLaney of Elmira, NY, Paul, deceased (Micki) DeLaney of Festus, MO, Justin (Joan) DeLaney of Elmira, NY, Margaret (Peter) Radez of Horseheads, NY, and Joseph (Cindy) DeLaney of Cape May, NJ.
A proud graduate of Broome Technical Community College and SUNY Cortland, she was a registered dental hygienist and health teacher. For over 45 years, she cared for patients and their families while working with Drs. Thomas Nolan, Neil MacDougal, and Elizabeth O'Connor in Liverpool, NY.
For over 50 years, Eileen and John were faithful communicants of St. Joseph the Worker Parish in Liverpool, NY, where they actively contributed to parish and community life. After recently relocating to Glenmont, near Albany, they embraced their new community with the same spirit of kindness and engagement.
Eileen found true happiness in her family and the relationships she built within her community. She never forgot a birthday, made the best homemade cookies, and always shared a thoughtful message or a supportive comment—whether in person or on Strava. She found joy in knitting, walking, biking, and especially hiking with John. In 2001, she proudly became an Adirondack 46er, having climbed all 46 High Peaks in the Adirondack Mountains—a testament to her determination and adventurous spirit.
