Mildred Mae (Tanck) Nelsen, 101, of Phoenix, NY, died Wednesday, July 6, 2022 at home. Born in Bayshore, NY, she resided most of her life on Long Island and in Florida before moving to the Phoenix area (Town of Lysander) in 1989.

In 1943, she was united in marriage to Martin C. Nelsen, while he was on active duty with the U.S. Army, a blessed union lasting 67 years until his passing in 2011. Mrs. Nelsen was a member of the Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod, most of her life, and more recently attended Mt. Pleasant UM Church in Volney, NY.  Mrs. Nelsen was also predeceased by her brother and sister.

She is survived by her son, Christian Nelsen of Fulton, NY; two daughters Nancy (Ronald) Caravan of Phoenix, NY and Virginia (Gary) Ettlemyer of Belvidere, NJ; five grandchildren, Michael (Annelies) Ettlemyer of Lexington, SC, Michelle (Herbert) Stockschlaeder of Eden, NY, Martin (Frances) Ettlemyer of Holmdel, NJ, Adrienne Caravan of Manassas, VA, and Lisa Caravan (Mark Sheftall) of Rochester, NY, nine great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

A calling hour will be held on Wednesday, July 13, 2022 from 9:30 am to 10:30 am at the Maurer Funeral Home Moyers Corners, 3541 State Rt. 31 Baldwinsville with a brief Memorial Service to follow at 10:30 am.  Burial will follow in the Onondaga County Veterans Memorial Cemetery alongside her husband.
