Obituary

Phillip Joseph Prell joined the Lord in life everlasting January 6, 2025, at the age of 94. Born and raised in Syracuse, Phil's generosity knew no bounds in life, and also in passing by donating his body for scientific research. Phil was a good man; a great father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, and a beautiful soul who would help anyone. He was a very loving husband, kissing his bride of 73 years at midnight this New Year's Eve.
Phil lived a fulfilling life and especially loved spending time surrounded by family and friends. He lived each day as if it was a gift.
After graduating Christian Brothers Academy, Syracuse, Phil served his country as a Marine, earning the silver, cross-rifled badge of the expert rifleman. He was employed with Smith Corona for over ten years. Phil and his wife Anne owned and operated the Travelers Motel in North Syracuse, welcoming guests for over 30 years.
Phil served our Lord in his commitment of Faith and served the community in many selfless ways as a Eucharistic minister with St. Margaret's Church, Mattydale, and Christ the King Parish, Liverpool; as past president of the Holy Name Society at St. Margaret's Church; as a North Syracuse Kiwanian for 52 years; as a driver for Meals on Wheels; as a mentor to children in reading programs at Roxboro Elementary School for 14 years; and as a volunteer with the Bayberry Association, Liverpool.
Phil was excited to take to the sky as a general aviation private pilot. He was an avid reader and had a keen interest in history. He worked on crossword puzzles daily. He often had a picture puzzle at some stage of assembly. He and his wife Anne danced with the L.A.C.E. Ballroom Dancing group and with Pairs & Squares. He enjoyed participating in church theater productions, especially the murder mysteries. He loved the excitement of children when he portrayed Santa Clause at Christmas time.
Mostly, Phil was very proud of his family. He recognized the espoused morals and values of his family as a reflection of his own. He was aware that the love he shared grew across generations, bringing him peace and comfort of a life well lived. Although Phil has left our world, he will live on in the hearts of many.

Phil was preceded in death by parents, Frank and Elizabeth Prell; his brother Frank Jr. Prell; his sister Elizabeth (Pacini); daughter-in-law Deborrah Prell; and granddaughter Sandra Thornton.
Phil is survived by his wife Anne; children George Prell (Chantal), Kathleen Friedman (Heinz), Steven Prell, Robyn Prell, Kenneth Prell (Linda), and Edward Prell (Shawn); nine grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Phil's family would like to acknowledge the comfort and support offered by the people close to us and to thank them for their kindness and well wishes.
There will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, January 20, 2025, at 11:00 am in Christ the King Church, 21 Cherry Tree Lane, Liverpool, NY. The Rite of Committal and burial will occur at a future time in St. Mary's Cemetery, DeWitt, NY.
In lieu of flowers, kindly consider donations in Phil's name to Meals on Wheels, Christ the King Parish, or the Francis House.

Please sign the Maurer Funeral Home online guestbook for Phil to express your condolences to his family.
