Obituary

Pierce W. Bidlake, 83, passed away peacefully at home. A long-time resident of Liverpool, Pierce was born in Cleveland, OH; son to the late Leonard P. and Anita (Wilson) Bidlake.  He was raised in Bedford, Ohio, and graduated from Ohio Northern University, class of 1962, with a Bachelor's degree in Education. Using that degree to teach Industrial Arts for a brief time in Columbus, he subsequently went on to work in the insurance industry, beginning by selling life insurance and later finding his niche with Aetna Life and Casualty Company as a Safety Engineer.

Following his retirement from Aetna in 1995, he continued to work tirelessly for the local community and his church in various roles, including as head usher and trustee.  Pierce was instrumental in growing the congregation at Christ Community United Methodist Church exponentially.

Believe it or not, he was a consummate practical joker and prankster; no one was safe from his antics (limburger cheese, anyone?), nor exempt from his love.  An avid woodworker, he created multiple pieces of furniture for his family and those he loved.  For entertainment, he loved building "whirligigs," which can be seen throughout his neighborhood.

He lost his beloved wife of 51 years, Joyce (Melsop) Bidlake in December of 2015.  Later, he reconnected and married the widow of a fraternity brother and long-time family friend, Carol Douglas, spending a happy four years traveling together. Pierce is survived by his children; Cheryl "Charlie" Myers and Rich Bidlake, three grandchildren, Emily "Emmy", Jacob, and Amanda; his wife, Carol, his brother, Kenneth (Suzy) and family in Virginia. In addition to his first wife, and parents, Pierce was predeceased by his brother, James S. Bidlake and family.
