Bittel, Sr.
October 7, 1930 – January 23, 2024
Richard J. Bittel, Sr., 93, of Liverpool, NY passed away peacefully on Tuesday at the Sunnyside Care Center. He was born and raised in the Village of Liverpool, son of the late Albert and Anna (Scharmach) Bittel. After attending Liverpool High School, he was united in marriage to the former Evelyn A. Fisher, a blessed union of 59 years. Richard enjoyed a 35-year career as a Lineman with New York Telephone, a job he truly loved, retiring in 1991. He was an avid outdoorsman, whether hunting or taking trips in his RV traveling up and down the East Coast. Richard will be remembered as a kind and gentle soul who was a wonderful father. He had a great sense of humor and had a love for dogs. Richard is predeceased by his wife, Evelyn A. Bittel, three sons; Richard J. Bittel, Jr., twins, James and John, his siblings; Margaret "Peg" Bandy, Robert Bittel, Albert Bittel, Jr., Betty Zacholl and William Bittel.
Surviving is his daughter, Nancy (Thomas) Bittel Bassett of Hannibal, NY, son, Daniel W. (Kimberly) Bittel of Liverpool, NY, daughter-in-law, Lisa Bittel, 8 grandchildren; Gabrielle and Alexander Bittel, Cassandra (Briana) Woods, Simon, Brendan and Noah Blair, Nicholas (Kayley) and Nathan Bittel, three great-grandchildren; Quinn and Tiberius Blair and Emersyn Bittel, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Graveside services will be held on Saturday, January 27, 2024 at 12:00 pm in Pine Plains Cemetery, 8686 Henry Clay Blvd, Clay, NY.
