Obituary

Richard "Dick" T. Thom, 87, of The Hearth at Greenpoint in Liverpool, was welcomed home by Our Lord Jesus August 31, 2024. During his brief illness, family gathered and upheld him in love at Crouse Irving Memorial Hospital. Dick retired at 57 years of age after 38 years with Niagara Mohawk, overseeing Records Management for the Nine Mile Nuclear Power Station in Oswego. Earlier, Master Sergeant Thom retired at 45 after 27 years of service with the NY Army National Guard. Before and after his boys took up baseball and he coached and umpired their games, as a true athlete always devoted to team play into his 80s, no one enjoyed more minutes posting up on the court and more innings at first base than lefty Dick Thom.

Richard Thomas Thom was the first of two sons born to the late Robert J. and Marion K. (Kniery) Thom, and the first child born at Deaconess Hospital in Buffalo on Mother's Day, 1937. Richard was married 41 years to Lucille (Brunet), until her passing in 2018. Moving to Baldwinsville in 1980, the couple enjoyed greeting neighbors from "the beach" at 8770 Radburn Drive. Earlier, Dick and Patricia (Seklecki), raised their three sons in Liverpool until her passing in 1974.

Richard is beloved and cherished by his daughter, Lisa Mascaro (Lara) of Easthampton MA, three sons: David (Sherley) of Pepperell MA, Michael (Pamela) of Golden CO, William (Rebecca) of Fayetteville, grandchildren; Lauren, Jenae, Keith, Joshuah, Wyatt, and by Dick's brother, Donald (TreAnn) of Buffalo and niece, Christine of Chicago.
