Robert J.
Bailey
October 26, 1944 – January 22, 2022
Robert James Bailey, 77, passed from earthly life to eternal life on January 22, 2022. "Bob" was the first born to Robert L. Bailey and Helen R. (Kingsley) on October 26, 1944. He grew up in Liverpool, NY and graduated from Assumption Catholic Academy in 1962. He enlisted in the Army Reserves along with his two brothers, Richard and Ronald, during the Vietnam War. Bob spent much of his younger years playing baseball and enjoyed fishing and water skiing while spending summers with his family at his grandfather's camp on Oneida Lake. He loved music and played guitar with his buddies in their band. He also spent decades building his enormous record collection and he cherished his special ordered Fender Telecaster guitar!
Bob's career as a computer programmer and system analyst began in Syracuse, NY at Hall & McChesney and Crouse Hinds and he continued in this field for nearly 40 years. In December 1977, Bob, his wife Barbara, and their daughters relocated to Phoenix, AZ for the balance of his working career at Honeywell. After retiring, he moved to Florida in 2007 and lived there with his wife Mary, and after her passing, he returned to his upstate home area in March 2020.
Bob was loved for his humor, helpfulness and generosity. He was encouraging and genuinely happy for you when you were excited about something and he gave helpful guidance to his family and friends. We loved listening to his many stories and thoughtful input from the lessons he learned. He displayed understanding, kindness and patience when teaching others, whether at work or outside of work. Also, Bob was appreciated for his diligence and was an excellent example of a strong work ethic. He was a very detailed person and took great care in keeping his automobiles in showroom condition! Bob appreciated what was given to him, whether it be a tangible item or an act of kindness. Something he spoke of often, was his appreciation of all the beautiful things on earth that God created, like the mountains and deserts of the southwest, the lush greenery and abundant bird species in Florida, and of course, the colorful beauty of autumn found in New York State. He enjoyed hiking and the nature around him, influencing each of his daughters' appreciation of nature as well.
Bob is predeceased by his parents, Robert and Helen; his sister, Mary Loewy; his brothers, Richard and Ronald; his first wife, Barbara, and his wife, Mary.
He is survived by his three daughters, Barbara, Kelly and Lori; his granddaughter, Shayla; his sister, Janet (Richie) Melito, along with many nieces and nephews.
