Bob Backus, 65, of Syracuse, passed away peacefully on Wednesday at St. Joseph's Hospital after a long illness.  Bob spent many years in the auto business at numerous locations in the Syracuse area, the last being Backus Ford.

Bob is remembered for his love of family, history, and as a prolific storyteller; particularly, stories of years spent at the Pine Tree Club in Gouverneur, NY, hunting with family and friends. He had a great love for the St. Lawrence River and the history of that region. Bob was a long-time donor to the American Red Cross and supporter of the Susan G. Komen Foundation.

Bob is survived by his parents, George (Anne) Backus, of Fayetteville, NY and Highland Beach, FL, his mother, Hilda Backus, of Liverpool, NY, his siblings, Donald (Deanna) Backus of Baldwinsville, NY and Kathleen Backus Alibrandi of Pittsford, NY.  He also leaves behind Joyce Backus of Manlius, NY, mother of his three beloved sons; Joshua (Jessica) Backus, Daniel Backus and Travis Backus, and his cherished granddaughter, Margot.

Donations in Bob's memory can be made to either American Red Cross or the Susan G. Komen Foundation.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, October 26, 2021 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the Maurer Funeral Home, Inc., 300 Second St., Liverpool, NY 13088.  Interment will be private.
