Roberta S. Locke, 96, of Liverpool, NY, moved to her heavenly home on Monday. Roberta was born in Syracuse, NY on April 24, 1928. Her father, Ralph Smith, was a Methodist minister in the Finger Lakes area and they moved frequently. She was an avid reader as a child and that drew her to want to be a librarian.

Roberta graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Library Science from Geneseo in 1949. She married Ward Locke on June 18, 1950. She joined the Free Methodist Church after getting married, and in her later years was a member of Community Wesleyan in Baldwinsville.

Roberta worked as a professional librarian all of her adult life, primarily in the Onondaga County Library System, and retired at the age of 76. She was introduced to computer systems way before many people. Roberta was cherished by all who knew her, as a generous, gentle, understanding friend who loved Jesus. She will be greatly missed by family and friends. She is predeceased by her husband, Ward and her two older brothers, Victor and Wendell.

She is survived by her daughters, Rebecca (Stephen) Thorson and Judith (Richard) Bennett, grandchildren; Mark Thorson and Christina (Stephen) Sanders, great-grandchildren; Maya, Jonathan and Simone Sanders, step-granddaughter, Tammi (Frank) Parsons, two-step-great-granddaughters, Courtney and Justine and six step-great-great-grandchildren.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, November 22, 2024 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Maurer Funeral Home, Inc. 300 Second St., Liverpool, NY. Funeral services will be held on Saturday November 23, 2024 at 11:00 am in Community Wesleyan Church, 112 Downer St., Baldwinsville, NY 13027. Burial will follow in Liverpool Village Cemetery.
