Sonja M.
Santarelli
June 14, 1945 – May 26, 2024
Sonja Momquist Santarelli, 78, of Liverpool passed away Sunday, May 26, 2024 at St Camillus with her family at her side. Despite many health challenges, she kept smiling and joking through it all. Born in Montclair, NJ, she grew up in Verona, NJ until moving to Liverpool, NY in 1974 when her husband was transferred. She worked as a teller, eventually moving up to a customer service representative because of her love of people and gift of gab. There was nothing Sonja loved more than traveling, especially cruising, and socializing, touching the heart of everyone she met. Active in many groups, she loved being with her friends of seniors, dominoes and cards. She was kind to everyone and had a heart of gold. Affectionately known as Mor-Mor, she adored her grandchildren. She had many life-long friends and was generous, kind, and loving to all she knew. Her beloved daughter Susan was her companion and support, sharing wonderful adventures, laughter and tears over the years. Sonja was very proud of her Swedish heritage, and little gnomes surrounded her home and garden in search of her Swedish meatballs and pancakes.
Sonja is predeceased by her husband, Arthur Santarelli, in 1993, her son, Joseph Santarelli, in 2022 and her long-term special friend, James Tesoriero.
Surviving to cherish her memory are her daughter, Susan Santarelli, of Clay, her grandchildren; Joseph Santarelli-Hansen (Veronica) of Kansas, Shayna Santarelli-Hansen of Clay, Alexander Santarelli-Hansen (Nina) of Syracuse, and Zachariah Santarelli-Hansen of Clay, as well as some very special cousins.
A special thank you to all Sonja's amazing friends, especially her rides back and forth to dialysis.
Tills vi ses igen, Sonja.
