Thomas Wilfred Andres, 81, passed away peacefully on February 2, 2022. Born on February 11, 1940 in Rochester, New York to the late Wilfred Aloysius Andres and Loraine Killip Andres, he graduated from Aquinas High School in 1958. Tom went on to earn his Bachelor of Science degree from St. John Fisher College in 1963 before enlisting in the US Navy with his best friend, Al Shuckra. He served three years as an Ensign aboard the USS Monrovia, followed by a year in the Computer Programming Training Program at Kodak where he met and wrangled the beautiful Suzanne Richmond. After their nuptials, he rejoined the US Navy, making it his career for the next eighteen years. He served tours aboard the USS Caloosahatchee and USS Guadalcanal where he was part of the APOLLO 9 capsule recovery. He was stationed in Norfolk VA, Omaha NE, Newport RI, and Great Lakes IL, before retiring as Commander in Poquoson, VA with his family of five.
Following his military career, he earned his MBA at the College of William & Mary before embarking on his next career as a Management Analyst, then wrapping it up teaching business statistics as an adjunct professor at a local community college. Once in full retirement, he spent time traveling with Suzanne to China, Europe, Ireland, and Alaska, tending to his roses, and roaming the aisles of Costco. He was an active member of St Kateri Tekakwitha Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. His faith was always in the forefront.
Tom was a family man who is survived by his wife, Suzanne, whom he deeply loved and appreciated; his three children; Timothy of Baldwinsville, NY, Gregory (Courtney) of Leesburg, VA, and Stephanie (Thomas) of Clarksburg, MD; his five grandchildren Jack, Sarah, Haley, Ethan, and Kate; his siblings Barbara Sturtz (David), Joan Metzger, Robert Andres (Evie), and Jean Heinsler (Gary), and many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, February 7, 2022 at 12:00 pm in St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, 3494 State Rt 31, Baldwinsville, NY 13027. The Rite of Committal and burial will be held with full military honors in the spring in Union Cemetery, Scottsburg, NY.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to contribute to a church or charity of your choosing.
